The Way of the Gun (2000)
Also Known As:
Secuestro Infernal
Directed by
Christopher McQuarrie
Plot Outline:
We learn in The Way of the Gun’s first scene that Mr. Parker (Ryan Phillippe) and Mr. Longbauw (Benicio Del Toro) don’t always pick their fights wisely. Mr. Parker tells us in a voiceover that the two thugs see no hope in life. As he puts it, “Our path had been chosen and we had nothing to offer the world. So we stepped off the path and went looking for the fortune that we knew was looking for us.” The fortune turns out to be a huge kidnapping haul – $15 million in cash that they figure they can squeeze out of the Chidducks, a wealthy couple with organized crime links that is are within days of adding a child to the family by way of a surrogate mother. Parker and Longbauw know that Robin (Juliette Lewis) has bodyguards, but they go for it anyway. A wildly violent series of events follows as the bodyguards, Mr. Chidduck’s bagman Joe Sarno (James Caan) and – occasionally – law enforcement authorities, come in pursuit of the thugs and their precious hostage.
